Emotional freedom technique / tapping
Treatment
Emotional freedom techniques (EFT)—aka tapping—is a self-help therapy developed in 1995 by a lay healer named Gary Craig to help address mind/body health. It borrows from traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), specifically the concept that there is a network of energy pathways or meridians that circulate chi (vital energy) throughout the body. Here's an example of how it works: to clear disruptions in the energy flow that leads to negative emotions, choose an issue you want to address. It could be anger about a work situation, say, or a stiffy, achy knee. Then, using two or more fingertips, tap nine specific points (“acupoints”) sequentially on your head and upper body while focusing intently on a brief version of your issue (“this pain in my knee”). You can do this sitting, standing or lying down, and repeat as needed. Once you learn how to do it, EFT can be done in less than a minute—or a friend or EFT practitioner can do it for you.
