Bloating
Symptom
Bloating, or swelling in the abdomen due to water retention, can easily happen after a large, salty meal (like when you’re hyped for #TacoTuesday that you way overdo it!) Maybe drop the “not that we’ve been there or anything.” If you have a chronic illness, though, bloating can happen on lots of other occasions, too. It’s no fun to have a bad feeling in your gut (literally), and not just because your jeans feel far too tight. Bloating can be a sign of functional GI issues like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), food intolerances, or even biotoxin exposure. If you find yourself dealing with bloating regularly, it's a good idea to check in with a practitioner who can help you figure out what's going on. Meanwhile, there's a lot you can do to help beat the discomfort. Potential treatments to explore include probiotics, elimination diets, binders (like Bentonite clay), digestive enzymes, bitters, or even a soothing cup of peppermint tea.
