MTHFR genetic mutation

Has anyone gotten the MTHFR genetic test? It’s like an enzyme that effects how you metabolize (absorb) some nutrients and medications I guess. My psych NP suggested getting the test because it can tell you which medications will work or not (for mental health). Thoughts?

hey everybody out there, I’m new. I was thrilled that there’s a nonbinary gender option, and that diagnoses like interstitial cystitis and the MTHFR mutation are here. I’ve been struggling with a variety of mental and physical health challenges over the past 5 years in particular. I started off 2020 feeling the best I can remember feeling... now I’m at a low, low point. Not only have I experienced flare ups of my IC, abdominal discomfort, and musculoskeletal pain... I’ve also been very sick with what might be COVID-19... perhaps it’s chronic sinusitis or something else, but it’s been very strange. And my depression and anxiety have been difficult to manage. I’m worried that I’ll have yet another chronic health issue to grapple with for years to come, and I’m angry that I was doing so well only to have the rug pulled out from under me. Anyone else experiencing this type of health-related grief?

I’m curious, has anyone ever heard of MTHFR, DAO, or other “dirty genes?” And does anyone else have low methylation? Asking for a friend (myself).
